چکیده

Different techniques for culturing respiratory epithelial cells have been developed to overcome the limitations of studies on in vivo and on bioptic material. However, each culture technique has its limitations, specifically concerning the expression of differentiated properties. These methods and limitations are described and discussed. Special attention is given to recent developments, which may resolve some of the current problems.

The distribution of serotonin-immunoreactive cells in larynx, trachea and bronchi of goat (Capra aegagrus) and bovine (Bos taurus)

The respiratory tract contains numerous peptides secreted from special pulmonary epithelial cells whichare called endocrine cells. The function of neuroendocrine cells is modulated by amines. Serotonin has strong vasomotor and bronchomotor effects in the airway mucosa. The objective of this study was to determine presence and distribution of serotonin-positive endocrine cells in respiratory tra...

Cryptosporidial Infection of Lower Respiratory Tract in a Budgerigar (Melopsittacus undulates)

Cryptosporial and bacterial co-infection is reported in a budgerigar with clinical manifestations of septicemia and respiratory tract infection. Microscopically large number of round to oval 2-5μm cryptosporidial organisms were found to be lodged on the parabronchial epithelial cells of the respiratory tract. The bacterial colonies were seen around the parabronchial spaces of the lung tissue. I...

تعیین فراوانی عفونت ویروسی پاراآنفلوآنزا به روش ایمونوفلوئورسانس در عفونت‌های حاد تنفسی

Background: Acute respiratory tract infections, both bacterial and viral, cause 4.5 million childhood deaths worldwide, most of which occur in developing countries. Parainfluenza viruses, of the paramyxoviridae family, are among the common causes of acute respiratory infections, giving rise to 30% of respiratory infections in children before school age. The four parainfluenza viruses that cause...

BK Polyomavirus in Respiratory Specimens of Patients with Respiratory Disease

Background and Aims: The role of BK and JC polyomaviruses (BKV and JCV) in the causation of respiratory disease and the natural route of transmission has not well been established. The aim of study was to determine the prevalence of BK and JC viruses in 280 respiratory samples and evaluate their contribution to respiratory disease. Materials and Methods: PCR was used to screen specimens for BK...
